Samuel Njoroge

“I’m Samuel and I am 7 years old. I don’t like it at home because there is no food and my Mother beats me when I make a mistake. I want to go to school to learn very hard, then when I grow up I will be able to listen and understand. I want to be a policeman one day so I can arrest the people who make bad mistakes.”
Samuel was rescued from his home by Children’s Rescue Centre International (CRCI) as he was being neglected by his Mother who lives in Kiandutu slum. Due to the unfamiliar environment of the children’s home, Samuel ran away and ended up on the streets at the very young age of 6. In November last year, he was found living on the streets by the police who then brought him to our Interim Care Centre.
Samuel has an older brother and sister who both live with their Grandmother. Any attempts to return Samuel home to live with his Mother have been unsuccessful. He usually lasts less than one week before running away again. Samuel went to school only for a short time last year so really needs to start from the beginning. Whilst living at our centre, he has been learning to read as well as having the opportunity to begin to get an understanding of some basic level school classes. Our centre however is not the best environment for someone of Samuel’s young age, it would be better if we could find him a place more suitable and equipped for his age group.
