Yusuf Njoroge

Yusuf’s parents are both deceased. Due to lack of food, hardship and a grandfather who did not know how to look after small children, Yusuf took to the streets and worked carrying vegetables in the Market. Yusuf was identified through our outreach satellite for street children in Makongeni and referred to our Interim Care Centre. Yusuf completed our six month rehabilitation programme in May 2008 and is currently in standard 6 at primary school. Yusuf and his sister are living in extremely poor conditions with an elderly guardian and are often left alone in the house with little or nothing to eat and no role model to guide them.
The grandfather remarried a woman and the children are constantly tossed between their two houses and are usually left alone without adequate care. Yusuf often turns to the street to find food and money for himself and his sister. Nevertheless, he is very, very bright and with the right schooling and motivation could do exceptionally well. Finding a sponsor for Yusuf would give us the ability to send him to private boarding school, where he will benefit from school feeding and better tuition. The secure environment and food in both these schools would remove the need for Yusuf to turn to the streets. Yusuf will need to be a bread winner early in life and a good education will be invaluable to him.
The cost for covering boarding school fees for Yusuf and his sister (Zainabu) would be £450 each per year. Please contact the Sponsorship Coordinator at sponsorship@actionchildren.org with further inquiries.
