Zainabu Nyamburi
In Standard 5 at a local primary school, Zainabu is often left home alone in the slums while her brother looks for food. She is extremely vulnerable in her current situation and it is important that we remove her to a safer environment as soon as possible!
Zainabu is 12 years old and is currently in standard 5 at a local primary school. She is an orphan and lives together with her brother and grandfather. According to local culture Zainabu, as the only female in the house, has been made responsible for all household chores. She cooks, cleans, fetches water, mends clothes and attends to other essential duties in the house. She is often focusing on these chores for over 5 hours a day. Zainabu has no firm role model and is often left home alone while her brother turns to the streets in search of food. This leaves Zainabu in an extremely vulnerable position.
It is important for Zainabu to be removed from this situation as soon as possible. By finding her a sponsor, we could send her to a good school which provides a safe and nurturing environment for her. This would encourage Zainabu to focus on her education and prevent her from an early pregnancy and becoming trapped in the cycle of poverty she has so far grown up in. A good education is Zainabu’s best possible chance for a positive future and Sponsorship will ensure she receives this.
