Communications Volunteer
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated volunteer to assist us with our communications work.
As a small charity, AfCiC prides itself on its personal approach. Those who assist us with our work become not only donors but part of the AfCiC family. We are dedicated to maintaining open lines of communication with all our donors, sponsors and supporters, both within the local community and around the world.
Job Description:
- Working with staff and volunteers in the different programmes to develop shorts stories and good photographs of AfCiC's work.
- Compiling and ensuring the wide distribution of a quarterly newsletter for our supporters about our work in Thika, Kenya.
- Working with the staff, volunteers and children to compile a monthly bulletin for local businesses, the local council etc. comprising of photographs, short stories and event reports
- Increasing local and international awareness of AfCiC's work.
- Generating new local sponsors in order to aid the sustainability of the programmes.
- Training a local member of staff in communications work
- Updating case files and maintaining relationships between sponsors and individual children.
- Depending on your workload you may also be required to assist with the organisation's after school clubs.
Skills and experience required :
- A highly-motivated self-starter able to work on own initiative.
- Experience of working with children, preferably those from disadvatanged backgronds.
- Previous experience managing effective communications.
- Experience of working in developing countries or in a multi-cultural environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to network effectively.
- Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet.
When can I volunteer as the Communications Volunteer?
You can volunteer at any time but we ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of a 3 month placement and are happy to accommodate for up to 9 months. Please mention on your application form how long you wish to stay.
Cost : We ask all volunteers to make a modest project contribution of £700 for 3 months, £900 for 6 months or £1100 for 9 months. The volunteer is involved in directly spending this money for the charity which will directly benefit the children that we work with.
This does not include rent for accommodation which is approximately £120 per month. In addition you will have to pay for your flights, insurance, vaccinations and other in country expenses.
