Web Design and Information Technology Volunteer
We are looking for a volunteer with experience in web design and information technology to assist us with updating our website and improving our technological capabilities.
AfCiC is a growing organization, and we are interested in ensuring that our technological capacity keeps pace with our increasing workload. In addition, we would like to update our website so that it is as visually appealing, organized, and as user-friendly as possible. We would like a volunteer to bring an injection of creativity to our website, and to teach us to maintain the site ourselves for the foreseeable future. We would also like to give our web design volunteer the opportunity to live in Thika and become personally involved and familiar with our work.
Job Description:
- Working with key staff to come up with a new visual design and identify needed structural changes for the website
- Implement the agreed upon changes to the site, and manage the transition from one website to the next
- Teach key members of staff how to perform the basic updates and changes that will be necessary in the future
- Help us make necessary repairs to office technology, improve the office computer network, and update/improve our software
- Provide technology and software training to members of AfCiC staff and some of the children in our programmes
- Depending on workload and desire, help with children's activities like our after school club and holiday club
Skills and Experience Required:
- Training and experience in website construction and design
- Thorough knowledge of information technology systems, preferably in office environments
- Some experience teaching technology and software preferred
- Experience living and working in a developing country or multi-cultural environment preferred
- Experience or interest in working with children preferred
- Good communication skills
- A highly motivated self-starter
- You must be at least 21 years
When can I volunteer?
You can volunteer at any time but we ask that volunteers commit to a minimum of a 3 month placement. Please mention on your application form how long you wish to stay.
Cost : We ask all volunteers to make a modest project contribution of £700 for 3 months or £900 for 6 months. The volunteer is directly involved in spending this money for the charity, directly benefiting the organization and the children that we work with.
This does not include rent for accommodation, which is approximately £120 per month. In addition you will have to pay for your flights, insurance, vaccinations and other in country expenses.
