What we do

How we help

"Safe Havens"

AfCiC provides emotional support for victims of violence, hatred and despair within communities. This support is offered thorough the provision of 'safe havens'. In these safe and supportive environments, those who are most vulnerable can begin to feel comfortable. Comfortable enough to begin to accept emotional and psychological support that can ease the fear, trauma and pain to create a newfound sense of freedom. By providing counselling and support to these survivors, AfCiC helps people come to terms with their past, make the most of their present and look forward to their future.

Working with the community

When poverty, desperation and despair create conflict often children and young people choose or are forced to leave family and try to make their own way in the world. For many this leads to life on the streets where they face illness, malnutrition, conflict with the law, isolation from society and violence. Our programmes in Tanzania and Kenya focus on prevention and rehabilitation of street children; working with the local community, families and children to tackle the problems that lead to children going to the street and enabling those already there to find their way back to home and society.

Where children have not had the opportunity to access education and skills training, we provide this for them. If young adults want to start their own business we provide business training and start-up micro-credit.

Social awareness

In all of our work we use every opportunity to sensitise and educate children and the wider community in issues such as human rights, HIV/AIDS, and general health matters.
