Hear Our Voice Kenya is an innovative performing arts project, launched in 2008 in association with Action for Children in Conflict (AfCiC). SYNOPSIS
The film follows the different fortunes of two street boys - George and Newton. After becoming friends the lives of the two boys take very different paths when George is brutally beaten on the streets by an older boy and saved by a theatre group for street boys. As the boys lives grow further apart their friendship continues to pull them back together with George fighting to save Newton from the streets before its too late. The film explores the challenges and realities of life on the streets. It shows the close bonds street boys form as they face tragedy and adversity and demonstrates the importance of giving street boys a chance to change their lives. It is a fictional story but based upon the real experiences that street boys across Kenya go through.
Significantly, all the boys in the film are former street or acutely vulnerable children who have been supported and rehabilitated through the work of AfCiC and Hear Our Voice Kenya. They show incredible talent and capabilities as performers and bring a raw reality to the film when you understand these boys have faced such circumstances in their real lives. They demonstrate maturity and confidence and show how their lives and ambitions have been changed through the work of AfCiC and Hear Our Voice.
